For that reason, in cooperation with Berlin Packaging Dangerous Goods and Lithium Safety, VDL Staalservice has independently developed BUNCKER®, the only final product produced by VDL Staalservice. A safe and user-friendly packaging solution for hazardous lithium batteries.
What is BUNCKER®?
BUNCKER® is an advanced packaging solution designed to safeguard safety and convenience. It can withstand a Thermal runaway without the exterior becoming too hot and is able to contain harmful gases to minimise consequential damage. Instead of traditional lidded containers, BUNCKER® uses a double-walled cover with special insulation material that works thermally and binds harmful gases. Suitable for all users, BUNCKER® meets the most stringent criteria for the transport and storage of lithium batteries, including UN certifications for road, air, sea and rail transport.
What is the role of VDL Staalservice?
VDL Staalservice plays a crucial role in the BUNCKER® project. As an initiator and developer, VDL Staalservice is responsible for the design and production of the innovative packaging solution.
Results
With BUNCKER®, VDL Staalservice offers a reliable solution for safe battery storage and transport. As such, we have received multiple awards, such as the iF Design Award 2024 and the Red Dot Design Award 2024. The product has also been awarded ADR-UN Certification LP906, which means that it meets European legislation for the transport of hazardous substances. These results demonstrate that BUNCKER® is a leading solution in the industry for safe battery storage and transport.
